Harsil Valley is not just a single trek but a gateway to several stunning Himalayan trails ranging from easy day-hikes to challenging high-altitude expeditions. Known as the “Mini Switzerland of India,” it serves as an ideal base due to its lush apple orchards and views of the Gangotri range.
Essential Trekking Information
Best Time:April to June for pleasant weather and September to November for clear skies and the famous apple harvest. Winter (Dec–Feb) is popular for snow trekking but can be extremely cold.
Base Camp:Harsil Village (approx. 7,860 ft). Most treks start here or from the nearby Bagori and Mukhba villages.
Permits: While local hikes like Sattal don’t require them, high-altitude routes like Lamkhaga Pass and Gartang Gali require Inner-line permits due to their proximity to the border.
How to Reach Harsil
By Road: Harsil is 230 km from Dehradun (approx. 8–10 hours). You can take a taxi or bus from Dehradun or Rishikesh via Uttarkashi.
Nearest Rail/Air:Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun) is the closest flight hub.
