Harsil Valley Trek

Harsil Valley is not just a single trek but a gateway to several stunning Himalayan trails ranging from easy day-hikes to challenging high-altitude expeditions. Known as the “Mini Switzerland of India,” it serves as an ideal base due to its lush apple orchards and views of the Gangotri range.

Essential Trekking Information
  • Best Time: April to June for pleasant weather and September to November for clear skies and the famous apple harvest. Winter (Dec–Feb) is popular for snow trekking but can be extremely cold.
  • Base Camp: Harsil Village (approx. 7,860 ft). Most treks start here or from the nearby Bagori and Mukhba villages.
  • Permits: While local hikes like Sattal don’t require them, high-altitude routes like Lamkhaga Pass and Gartang Gali require Inner-line permits due to their proximity to the border.
How to Reach Harsil
  • By Road: Harsil is 230 km from Dehradun (approx. 8–10 hours). You can take a taxi or bus from Dehradun or Rishikesh via Uttarkashi.
  • Nearest Rail/Air: Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun) is the closest flight hub.
